Tom Tewell has been an ordained pastor for 40 years and has served congregations in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and New Providence, New Jersey, as well as the 5,100 member Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas and the 3,500 member Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. Each of the congregations Tom has served has experienced significant spiritual and numerical growth and has become deeply involved in ministry to the local community. The Memorial Drive Church in Houston is a Dollar for Dollar Church who gives one dollar to the needs of the world for every dollar they spend on themselves. Under Tom’s leadership, the Fifth Avenue Church developed a significant ministry to the homeless in New York City.
Tom has been invited to speak at conferences and in congregations all over America and has taught seminars on preaching and leadership at numerous Theological Seminaries including Princeton, Pittsburgh, Columbia, San Francisco and Fuller. He has been honored to preach and lead seminars at conference centers including Chautauqua, NY, Montreat, NC, Mo Ranch, TX, Ocean Grove and Ocean City, NJ, and Epworth Heights, MI. Tom served as a Trustee of his alma mater, Princeton Theological Seminary, for 15 years.
Tom is the recipient of numerous awards for his preaching and social ministry. He is the recipient of the Inter Faith Service Award for starting a ministry to persons with A.I.D.S. in Houston, Texas and the Social Ministry Award from the Council of Churches of the City of New York for ministry with the homeless. His sermons have been published in Christian Century, Christianity Today and numerous clergy journals. Tom is a graduate of Muskingum University in Ohio, Princeton Seminary and earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Drew Theological School in New Jersey. In addition, he has been awarded two honorary doctoral degrees; one from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and the other from his alma mater, Muskingum University..
Currently, Tom is the Founder and Executive Director of Macedonian Ministry, a position he has held since 2008. Macedonian Ministry is currently touching the lives of 300 pastors and congregations all over America by offering them the opportunity to grow in their preaching and leadership in a life-changing three year program. This ministry gives Tom the privilege of serving as a pastor to pastors. Tom and his wife Suzanne have been married for over 40 years and they have two married sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law and six grand-children, who are the joy of their lives!
